GETTING STARTED
Forwarding your number
How calls get from your current line to your Ringwise number, and how to test it.
Ringwise gives you a local number, and the agent answers that number. Your customers keep calling the number they already know. Your phone line forwards some or all of those calls to the Ringwise number. We do not port your existing number.
1. Choose your Ringwise number
In setup, step 10, Phone number: type a preferred area code, press Search numbers, then press Choose next to the number you want. The number then appears with a Forward your calls card.
2. Decide which calls to forward
- No answer. Your phone rings first. If nobody picks up, the call goes to Ringwise.
- Busy. Same idea, for when you are already on a call.
- After hours. Calls go to Ringwise when your office is closed.
- Everything. All your calls go straight to Ringwise.
Many shops start with no-answer, busy and after-hours forwarding so nothing changes while someone is free to answer. That is a choice, not a requirement.
3. Turn on forwarding with your phone provider
The way you do this depends on your carrier or phone system, and the steps are different for each. We do not list codes here, because they vary by carrier and plan and a wrong code can send calls somewhere you did not intend. Instead:
- Look for "call forwarding" in your carrier's support pages for your plan. Search for conditional forwarding if you want no-answer and busy forwarding.
- If you use a business phone system or an internet phone service, call forwarding is usually in its admin settings.
- If you are not sure, ask your carrier: "I want to forward calls to another number when I do not answer and when I am busy. What do I do, and does it cost extra?"
4. Test it
- From a different phone, call your business line.
- Let it ring through, or decline the call, depending on the forwarding you chose.
- You should hear your agent pick up with your greeting.
- Open Calls in the portal. The test call should be listed.
Turning forwarding off
Forwarding lives on your phone line, so you turn it off with your carrier or phone system. The Pause agent switch in Ringwise does not change forwarding. See Pausing the agent.
If forwarding is off, or set to the wrong number, calls will not reach your agent, and that includes emergency calls. Test after every change.
Common questions
Do I have to give up my current number?
No. You keep your number and forward calls from it to your Ringwise number.
Does forwarding cost extra?
That depends on your carrier and plan. Ask them before you turn it on.
Can you port my existing number to Ringwise?
Not today. Porting is not built. You forward calls instead.
